Lovin' My New Cookbooks

So a couple of months back I purchased some new cookbooks and I have slowly been going through them. Sometimes this has been a good thing according to my husband, and other times not so much...but you never know until you try!

The one that has seemed to go over best with the hubby is Cooking for Isaiah, a gluten and dairy free cookbook (though the recipes can use regular milk and flour as well) with amazing color photos. I think I personally gravitate to it because of the drool worthy photos, but I think it is also the fun spins on regular food...as well as my theory that a woman who once owned an Italian bakery is going to do her best to make good gluten free baked goods. So far I have been right about that. Dang, right now I desperately want a pizza from her cookbook!

I am dying to share this cookbook with my mother and aunt who are both celiacs. We have loved most of the recipes we have created form the book, and the ones that didn't go over well are ones where we decided to tweak something the next time around. I think it's a great first book for gluten free cooking.

Another thing I am dying to do is make this recipe from the book...this is her photo, not mine, i doubt my version will look so photo-worthy! It's a S'mores pancake recipe. Yum!

Another one that I bought is Make it Fast, Cook it Slow. It is a crockpot book written by Stephanie O'Dea, a woman who devoted an entire year to cooking in a crockpot. I love how her dedication in her book is to her husband for putting up with all the crockpot food! Too funny.

Her recipes have been hit and miss, but that is understandable since we aren't going to like everything, and her cookbook is MASSIVE! There are so many recipes, I have barely even touched the surface. I made some Mac and cheese the other day that tasted great to me, but my pasta disintegrated, so it was a bit of a fail boat. I am also not allowed to cook anything with bones in it in the crockpot according to my husband, because he hates the way it turns out. I have found a few so far that he enjoys, but ultimately he loathes crockpot cooking I guess!

The last one is called Simply Sugar and Gluten Free by Amy Green. I haven't done many of the recipes in it yet, though I have tons bookmarked. I made granola bars this last weekend, but I need to tweak those a bit. My first batch came out a bit boring. I also made granola and it was YUMMY! At first I didn't think I was going to like it, but I taste tested it before it cooled enough. It wasn't quite crispy enough yet. Once it crisped up, it was delicious and Joey gobbled it up for breakfast all week. I added some dried cranberries, but I didn't really think it needed them, though I think dried apples would have been delicious!

Sadly I haven't taken photos of any of the recipes I have made from these books yet. I will do better in the future so that I can best share the deliciousness! I am having so much fun creating and learning things in the kitchen! I hope to share more in the future, you know, once we are no longer living out of suitcases and have our own pots and pans and such here with us!
